2009 Official TREKFEST Highlights

Riverside, Iowa
June 26-27, 2009

ALL GUESTS are contracted to appear and all convention contracts specify that appearances are tentative and subject to change as film and television work demands take precedence.

* TREKFEST PARADE - 10am: This year’s theme is “The Voyage Home.” Walter Koenig, Nichelle Nichols and George Takei will appear on a special Star Trek float. Steve Miller will be Grand Marshal. In 1984, Miller suggested the town declare itself the official birthplace of Captain James T. Kirk. Miller had read a book by Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, "The Making of Star Trek," in which Roddenberry declared the captain had been born in Iowa. The city council wrote to Roddenberry asking for his permission to designate Riverside as the official birth site. He agreed. And the rest is history – or it will be in 2228 when Kirk is born behind a former barbershop, which is now marked by a large stone and plaque.

* MUSEUM: Visit “The Voyage Home” museum featuring Star Trek celebrity exhibits. Purchase TrekFest collector items for sale in the museum such as: T-Shirts, hats, cups, and other collectible items. The museum even sells “Kirk Dirt” – dirt from the actual site of the future birthplace of Captain James T. Kirk. (All sales benefit RACC and future TrekFest events.) Museum hours: Thursday thru Saturday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Sundays 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. Free admission, but free-will donations are welcomed.

* QUESTION & ANSWER SESSION with the STARS: A special Q & A Session with the stars will held at the Riverside Casino & Golf Resort Convention Center. Selected Sci-Fi vendors will be on-site for merchandise opportunities.

* AUTOGRAPH / PHOTO SESSION: Have your photo taken with the original Star Trek stars and get their autograph. For tickets click here.

* STAR TREK COSTUME CONTEST: A celebrity panel made up of Walter Koenig, Nichelle Nichols and George Takei will judge the contest! FREE ADMISSION
